1 dead, another injured after wind gust flips plane over at Orlando airport – Brospar Daily News

ORLANDO — Authorities in Florida believe Thursday’s fatal plane crash at Orlando airport may have been caused by extreme weather.

According to its preliminary accident and incident data, the FAA said there were two people on board the Diamond DA42 Twin Star as the plane was taking off when it rolled over due to gusty winds.

One person was pronounced dead at the scene and another was taken to Orlando Regional Medical Center, the Orlando Fire Department told USA TODAY.

NBC affiliate WESH reported the incident happened at Orlando Executive Airport around 5 p.m.

The identities of those on board the twin-engine aircraft have not been released, according to the Orlando Sentinel.

The twin-engine aircraft was not the only plane returned to the airport on Thursday.

Media reported that a parked single-engine unmanned aircraft was also overturned.

Meteorologists warned that “damaging winds over 60 mph” and rain were likely in the area, according to USA Today.

According to media reports, the National Transportation Safety Board is participating in the investigation.
