$31 million in funding announced for veterans across Texas

AUSTIN (KXAN) — More than $31 million in grants will be distributed to Texas veterans, according to Gov. Greg Abbott and the Texas Veterans Commission.

“This grant, approved by the TVC Commissioner in May, will provide a total of 139 grants to 121 organizations in Texas. It is estimated that these grants will serve more than 22,000 Texas veterans. Military personnel provide services,” Abbott said.

According to a news release, the grants support a wide range of services, including emergency financial assistance, transportation, legal services, home support services, home improvements, and rental assistance and to the mortgage.

TVC provides grants in five categories: General Assistance, Texas Hero Housing, Veterans Mental Health Grants, Veterans Treatment Courts, and Veterans County Service Personnel.

Abbott said the first round of grants this week went to 16 organizations to provide financial aid, peer support, therapeutic court, home modification and other services to veterans and their families.

The grant distribution sites listed are Edinburgh, New Braunfels, San Marcos, Houston, Taylor, Dallas, Lubbock and El Paso.
