ODESSA, Texas (KMID/KPEJ) — A video has gone viral on the local Bowie Middle School Facebook group.
It shows a student attacking a teacher over what appears to be a phone argument.
A Hector County ISD spokesperson said the incident happened on Wednesday. The boy is an eighth grader. He was arrested and charged with a first degree felony: aggravated assault on a public official.
The district also released a statement to ABC Big 2 News:
“This is appalling and horrifying and will not be tolerated. We have recently faced fights and violence and want our community to know that this behavior is unacceptable and we will do everything we can to stop it. Student Arrested and charged with a first degree felony and will also be subject to disciplinary action under the student code of conduct.We are seeing an upsurge in child abuse here, across the state and across the country; “We know our children are hurting and need us to address psychological health issues while holding them accountable for their actions. Our district will continue to work with students and families to address these issues.”
