A Proclamation on the Death of Queen Elizabeth II

Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II is more than a monarch. She defined an era.

In a changing world, she has been a stable presence and a source of comfort and pride for generations of Britons, many of whom would never have known their country without her. Queen Elizabeth II has always led with grace, unwavering responsibility and the unequaled strength of her example. She was a politician of unprecedented dignity and consistency, deepening the fundamental alliance between Britain and the United States. She helped make our relationship special. Its seventy-year history has witnessed unprecedented human progress and the advancement of human dignity. His legacy will be revealed in the tales of British history and our world.

In honor of Queen Elizabeth II, by virtue of the authority vested in me as President of the United States by the Constitution and laws of the United States of America, I hereby direct the flag of the United States on the White House and on all buildings and grounds, all military posts and naval bases, and the federal government in the District of Columbia and throughout the United States and all warships in its territories and possessions fly short-handed until sunset on the day of the burial. I also ordered that all U.S. embassies, embassies, consulates, and other installations abroad, including all military installations and naval ships and stations, fly the flag at half-mast.

I hereby declare September 8th the Year 2022 of our Lord and the 247th Independence Year of the United States of America.
