BILLINGS — A graduate of Billings West High School takes part in a quiz show produced by Peyton Manning and his brother. Craig Walker spoke to MTN News about what the experience was like and how his love of trivia was born.
“The opportunity is, you know, it’s fantastic,” Billings native Craig Walker said Thursday.
Walker graduated from West High in 2018 and now attends college at BYU in Provo, Utah. Through BYU’s quiz panel, he entered the College Bowl, a quiz contest hosted by Peyton Manning and his brother Cooper.
“It was such a unique experience. I never thought I would actually be on a game show. It was something that I thought was really cool,” Walker said.
Walker said his love of trivia began when he was very young, watching Jeopardy every night with his family. This love only grew when he became a member of the academic team at West High School led by his then physics teacher, Maureen Ladd.
“She’s always had a lot of faith in me, especially since I was in high school when she started building this team, so I can attribute a lot of the competitive aspects and drudgery to her,” Walker said.
When Walker sat down for this interview, he had no idea that I had recorded messages from his former teacher.
“Craig, you can do it, man. Believe in yourself, you’re a spiritual ninja, man,” Ladd exclaimed.
Walker was pleasantly surprised. For Ladd, she was thrilled to see it on the big screen on Friday.
“He’s just one of those people that draws people into him. His smile is contagious, he’s always so happy. He must be on TV, I just think it’s so cool, I’m so proud of him “said Ladd.
You can catch Walker at the College Bowl Season 2 premiere on Friday night. Even when he was in Utah, he kept calling Billings.
“I still miss Billings. I’m very proud of my hometown and I don’t know if everyone does, but I think Billings is a great place to grow up,” Walker said.
