AUSTIN (KXAN) — September is National Sickle Cell Awareness Month. Sickle cell disease occurs when red blood cells twist into a sickle shape. According to doctors, infection, pain and fatigue are symptoms of sickle cell disease.
Dr. Alicia Chang, a pediatric hematologist at Dell Children’s Medical Center, talks to KXAN about sickle cell anemia and ongoing research to help “sickle cell warriors.”
