A disgruntled Encik Tan customer named Nani Lingling on Facebook shared photos of her meal with Grievance Singapore.

His caption:

“Don’t be shocked of course, it’s a new contemporary section, a very small section that even pri 2 kids will find small.

Please do not patronize these encik tan at the waterway to prevent the stall aunt from having this kind of observation to chase customers and release them. No, it has nothing to do with inflation. These anti-customer statements have been circulating in recent years, let’s stop collectively. “

The fishball noodles on the menu look like this:

Individual bowls are priced at S$4.50, while bowls with additional noodle plates are priced at S$6.50.

When the fishball noodles arrived, they ended up looking a lot like the picture from the Singapore grievance board.

Of note is the number of ridges (no less than three) that appeared in the bowl before the bowl reached the noodles, and the shortage of other ingredients other than the noodles.

It also seems to be quite different from the fishball noodles featured on Encik Tan’s website, which contain some kind of unprocessed leafy greens.

mothership Encik Tan has been contacted for comment. This is what he says:

“We launched our Downtown East branch 12 months ago with a vibrant new look and are in the process of updating the menu display at Encik Tan stores across the island. While larger stores such as Downtown East and Marina Sq. may offer more varied dishes, Fishball Noodles are a staple in all stores.

Our Fish Ball Noodles are trending among potential customers and are served at S$4.50. We are now maintaining the same promotional value in our stores across the island, despite rising prices for rent, labor, utilities and groceries over the past 12 months.

A regular bowl of S$4.50 fishball noodles includes 5 fishball noodles served with spring onions and fried shallots. Potential customers can add S$2.00 to justify their meal with giant fish cakes.

The images on the website are half of what previous menus showed and will be updated to reflect those you see in Downtown East.

Encik Tan strives to maintain consistent quality in all of our stores and we will continue to do our best to achieve this. “
