Highway expansion could attract more development east of Austin

Texas Mansion (austin business journal) — the state plane FM 973 Extension and Tuning East Travis County could have a significant impact on area property owners and businesses.

They could include sparking a new wave of development in one of the last major vacant lots in the county.

Still unfunded, the project is expected to cost taxpayers around $167 million and includes plans to expand the two-lane road to six, creating a more substantial connection between Far East Austin and the estate. As proposed, the Texas Department of Transportation plans to extend FM 973 5.7 miles east between State Route 130 Turnpike and US Route 290.
