Substituted for Matip at half-time.
Matip has missed most of the 2022-23 season so far due to a groin problem.
The former Schalke defender returned as a substitute in a goalless draw at Goodison Park on September 3.
when asked Football Insider On his thoughts on the situation for centre-backs at Anfield, Robinson said: “Gomez was really bad against Napoli.
“This year has been a great season for him. I wonder why he signed a new contract because he didn’t play so many games last season.
“Because of the injury, he had his chance, but he didn’t take it.
“He’s a good player and [Virgil] van Dijk, I think he will thrive. I thought they would rekindle their partnership. I even think Gomez could sneak into the World Cup squad.
“But when Matip is fit, he struggles to get back on the wing. He does not take his risks.
“I think Klopp will want the stability of Matip and Van Dijk at the back.”
