SOUTH KINGSTON, Rhode Island (WLNE) – South Kingston Police Chief Matthew Moynihan was sworn into their new sympathy pup on Thursday afternoon.
Leo is a 10 week old Bernedoodle puppy who will serve as a support dog for first responders and the community.
Breeder Cove Angels of Taunton, Massachusetts donated Leo to the department to improve the health of first responders.
AT&T funded the program, while Rumford Pet Center provided food.
Chief Moynihan presented the pup at the swearing-in ceremony, saying “research shows that, dogIts presence can help lower blood pressure and reduce anxiety, allowing Leos to do jobs few others can.
South Kingston Police said the pup would help reduce stress for police departments often faced with traumatic events.
