Loved ones mourn loss of shooting victim at Henrico apartment complex, site of multiple violent crimes – Brospar Daily News

Henrico County, Va. (WRIC) – Edwin Lee Burgess, Jr., 23, was found dead in a Henrico County apartment complex on Wednesday night in what authorities described as apparent gunshot wounds.

According to the press release, around 10:45 p.m., Henrico police respond to a shooting in the 1600 block of Hope Road where the Hope Village apartments are locatedUpon arrival, they said they found an adult male outside one of the residences. The victim, later identified as Burgess, died at the scene from his injuries.

Longtime family friend Jama Mills said he was about to go to bed when he received countless notifications on his phone telling him that something was going on at the resort. apartments. He told 8News on Thursday that he didn’t want to believe what he had heard about Burgess. But when he arrived on the scene and saw first responders cover his friend’s body, he learned the heartbreaking truth.

“I wish I could wake up, it was just a dream,” Mills said. “We always talk about how we’re going to grow old, grow old and see our grandchildren.”

“When he left, I felt like a part of me was gone,” Mills said. “I can’t help it. I can’t be there to save him or anything.

Authorities have not released information about the suspects. However, first responder scanner audio shows a partial search for the person(s) responsible:

Nearby residents told 8News that authorities searched their yard for one or more suspects but could not find the perpetrator.

“Sometimes you get a little numb, like, listen to him,” a neighbor said. “For the younger people and their safety, and the older people who live there and their safety, and everyone’s safety, say, it’s a little concerning because the ball doesn’t have a name on it.”

Mills said he was shocked to hear what happened to Burgess and couldn’t imagine who would want to hurt the young man.
