Helena – Anthony Johnstone, a law professor at the University of Montana, was nominated by President Joe Biden to serve as a judge on the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals.
John Stone is the Helen and David Mason Professor of Law and Affiliate Professor of Public Administration at the University of Montana Blewitt School of Law. He teaches and writes on federal and state constitutions, legislation, election law, case law, and related disciplines.

As a lawyer, Johnstone has served as counsel in two dozen public cases in state and federal courts, including cases before the United States Supreme Court.
Prior to teaching at UM, Johnstone was a lawyer in the state of Montana. He holds a BA from Yale University and a Juris Doctor from the University of Chicago Law School.
