Plane lands after pilot threatened to crash into Mississippi Walmart, officials say

(WCBI)

A pilot flying a small plane threatened to “deliberately hit” a Walmart in Tupelo, Mississippi, and police are evacuating the Walmart and a nearby store, Tupelo police said in a news release Saturday morning. .

Police said they were notified around 5 a.m. ET when the pilot contacted 911 with the threat.

“The situation is still ongoing and the TPD and all emergency services in our area are on alert,” police said. “The danger zone is even much larger than Tupelo due to the maneuverability of this type of aircraft.”

Citizens are asked to avoid the area until it is completely clear. The situation continues.

Walmart’s Tupelo store is “currently closed and evacuated,” Walmart press office manager Charles Clausen told CNN.

“We are working closely with local investigators and taking the matter to law enforcement,” he added.
