Rangers players rated in their disastrous derby defeat vs Celtic

Rangers travel to Parkhead this afternoon for their first veteran derby of the season. The result would end Celtic’s meteoric run, but Gers suffered a crushing defeat in their Scottish title challenge. It ended in a humiliating 4-0 Europa League final.

Here’s how Rangers players scored in the fiasco against the Celtics.

Jon McLaughlin: 4

The Scot’s chaotic display could have done better to prevent at least a few strikes in the first half. The situation escalated late in the game when his mistake led to David Turnbull’s goal.

James Tavernier: 5

His defense is mediocre because he leaves a lot of space. There was little threat on the pitch due to a lack of accurate crosses and passing in the final third.

Conor Goldson: 5

The centre-backs were underperforming and failed to control play in the defensive third. His tackles are rusty and the long ball lacks precision.

James Sands: 5

He worked hard in deep defense, but he struggled against the Celtics’ fluid play. His positioning and passing could have been better.

Borna Barisic: 5.5

As the Croatian tried his best to link up with Ryan Kent, he hit a few crosses from the left. However, he struggled against Abada, who had two shots in the first half.

John Lundstram: 6

Looks combative in midfield. But Callum McGregor’s composure prevented him from gaining momentum. Make way for Ryan Jack in the late game.

Glen Kamara: 5

Looking out of place in midfield. There was little impact in the first half and was replaced by Scott Wright at half time.

Jon McLaughlin

Steven Davis: 6

His work rate is commendable, but the experienced Northern Irishman lacks pace against a young Celtic midfielder.

Malik Tilman: 6

His dribbling attempts were mostly unsuccessful. A huge effort was made as the young USMNT striker failed to move before making way for Scott Arfield.

Ryan Kent: 6

Created a few chances on the left side, but to no avail. Out of ideas at the end, was cast as Fashion Sakala with 12 minutes to go.

Antonio Colac: 5.5

The in-form center did not find his target despite several counter-attack attempts. Should have scored at least once before giving way to Alfredo Morelos in the last half hour.

Rangers vs. Celtics

Scott Wright: 6

His pace from the flank has increased since Kamara was substituted at halftime.

Alfredo Morelos: 5.5

Playing for the first time since being sacked against Hibernian. The Colombian needs to get his rhythm back before it’s too late.

Scott Arfield: 6

The “Super Submarine” from Gers made no notable contribution in the last half hour.

Saqqara Mode: 5.5

There is hardly any contact in the final third.

RyanJack: 5.5

There’s nothing special about the Scot apart from new legs in midfield.
