North Yorkshire Police tweeted: ‘The body of a man has been found in Whitby and we ask the public to stay clear of the pier while dealing with this incident.
“The marina on Henrietta Street has been closed and the public has been asked to avoid the area. Thank you for your collaboration.”
North Yorkshire Police have not released further details about the man at this stage, including his age and where he is from.

Unlike yacht marinas such as Blackpool and Brighton, Whitby Pier was built to load ships and protect the harbour, which has long been an important maritime centre.
Two of Whitby’s piers are now Grade II listed structures.
A pier in Swansea, South Wales, was engulfed in flames last week. At least seven fire engines were called to put out a blaze at a former nightclub.
Concerned residents shared on social media the thick black smoke billowing from The Mumbles.
Seven fire engines were reportedly on the scene to tackle the blaze. Local businesses, including cafes, were evacuated.

The source of the fire has since been identified as old Cinderella’s nightclub.
