World Cup star Yann Sommer set to replace David de Gea at Manchester United

Swiss World Cup star Jan Sommer is a target for Manchester United as they search for a replacement for David de Gea.

Sommer attracted interest from the Red Devils in the summer but a deal fell through, with United instead bolstering their number one on loan with Martin Dubravka.

The Swiss international would like to stay one step ahead of the World Cup to ensure he is fit for the tournament.

but now pictorial There are reports of “lightning changes” in the situation, with a high probability of summer relocation.

Besides De Gea, Tom Heaton and Martin Dubravka are also set to leave Old Trafford, while Dean Henderson has certainly cut ties at the club during his loan spell at Nottingham Forest.

That leaves United in desperate need of reinforcements between the two teams, and although Sommer says he is “fine” at the moment, he is believed to be open to a move.

Sporting director Roland Virkus seems to have bought into the idea that the player might want to move on, recently saying: “I can’t say which direction it’s going to go.

“It’s really like I said fifty points. Why? Not because the club didn’t want to give Yann prospects.

“Yann is very clear that he is a very important part of our management structure. But you also have personal goals.

“Maybe you want to play at another club after all. Maybe you want to win another title somewhere. He has to weigh all of that.

The Borussia Mönchengladbach goalkeeper has been exceptional in Qatar, making nine saves in two group matches.

This included a strong five-goal performance against Cameroon, where Sommer kept a clean sheet in the opener.

At club level, the Swiss international excelled in the Bundesliga and excelled in Gladbach’s high-pressure system.

His touches per game rank in the top 2% of all goalkeepers in Europe’s ‘Big Five’ domestic leagues, a stat that will impress Erik 10 Hag as it demonstrates his value for building a team. (fbref)

Sommer could be the perfect man to modernize the club’s goalkeeper position as the Ten Witches continue to transform United into a more proactive possession team.

Considering he will be on a free transfer this summer, it will also free up funds for the Red Devils to strengthen key outfield positions.

United fans will have the chance to see Sommer take on the recently sacked Cristiano Ronaldo tomorrow at 7pm when the Swiss take on Portugal in the round of 16.
